Motivated UMPH

I don't particularly like my step grandma, but she gave me some good advice in the morning. It's made me super motivated to do a thing.

Whoops

Oh my, it has been a while. So I've finished honours (I got first class, yay!) and it was probably one of my favourite years of my life this far! I achieved a lot and made some cool friends and I really miss being in the lab. Right now, I'm working in tattslotto (haha) and job searching for a lab job which I'm beginning to think I'll never get. Anyway, I've realised that I'd like to start studying again next year, but doing what is another story. I love working in the lab and contributing to research, but having a career in research is not a good idea because jobs as researchers are so unstable. You only can work year by year, hoping your lab gets enough funding to support you for the next. I think that kind of lifestyle is fine for a young person, but what happens when you want to settle down? I don't think it's such a great job then, as sad as I am to say it. So it's got me sort of conflicted. I love working in a lab, but I don't want to be a researcher. I could always work as a research assistant, but I can tell you now I'll end up wanting more after a few years.

That's why I want to study more next year. I'd love to do a PhD, but it usually leads to research jobs. So I'm trying to look at other courses that somehow lead to working in a lab...but not research as such. I'm sure there are heaps of jobs that exist like that, I just have to find them and then decide what I need to study! Life, heh.

Anyway, that's actually not what I came here to blog about. I came to blog about my skin. It's kind of terrible. I've never had great skin, but after puberty I used to get the occasional pimple or two. But lately I've been breaking out pretty bad, almost like the puberty days. I was thinking to myself, why? It could be stress, but then again last year I was super stressed and I never got THIS bad. I then realised, it's my diet. Last year (and all the years before), I used to eat a bit more healthier. I didn't have junk food as often and always had lots of fruit and veg everyday. Nowadays because I'm at home so much, when I'm hungry I usually opt for the unhealthy lunch because I have a choice. Last year I only could eat what I brought to uni, which was usually a healthy sandwich/salad and fruit or something. I know scientists say eating junk food doesn't give you pimples or whatever, but it clearly does! Well, to me at least. So I've decided I'm going to seriously start eating well again. Usually when health or trying to to lose weight are my motivation, it doesn't work because deep down inside i don't care TOO much about being healthy and my weight has never really bothered me. But my skin... I'm hella self conscious about that. So hopefully that will push me to be good! I was doing some research online, and compiled a list of foods that have shown to be good for the skin:

Dark berries, peppermint, pepitas, tomatoes, watercress, red grapes, beetroot, raw brocolli, sweet potato, tofu, beans, kale, avocado, green tea, garlic and alfalfa.

I literally did research, I even read some journal articles haha. These foods seem to be the best. I shall give it a go starting today!

Anyway, that's it from me. I'll let you know if I see any improvements in my skin!

Moosac

I orginally wanted to write a post about how I created a mutant for the gene I am working on in the lab. It's a pretty big thing, even Coral told me that "not every honours student is able to create a mutant, well done". It means something because Coral is Gibbs and never shows emotion. BUT instead I want to talk about the music I'm into at the moment because I am currently listening to music.

SO Alt-J is seems to be my band of the year because I've been listening to them quite a bit since the beginning of the year. They are very, very good musicians. If you like the technical side of music and like paying attention to the detail of songs, this is the band for you. But I don't think they'd be everyone's cup of tea. Although they have gathered quite a large fanbase in such a short amount of time, I was suprised they sold out festival hall in their first Australian tour. Anyways, here is my favourite song off their debut album. Look up the meaning of the song, and you'll fall deeper in love with the song.

I have recently purchased the new Queens of the Stone age album. This is a lot more rock and roll than alt -j. It's pretty good, but I think I prefer their older albums. Anyway, I really like the rock ballads on this album, and I'm not usually a fan of ballads. This song is one that stood out to me (not a ballad, but SO funky)

I also got other Garbage album for my birthday, one that was released in 2005. The reason I love Garbage so much is because all thier songs give me nostalgia for the 90s. Even the albums released in the 2000s. You'll know what I mean if you listen to their stuff! This song is my favourite song off the album. Musically it's quite poppy for my taste, but I just love it because the NOSTALGIA! Also, it's one of those songs that anyone can related to, you know, trying to find yourself and whatnot.

I've also been really into Radiohead, slowly making my way through all their albums (they have 8 :O ). Here is one song that is quite....abstract. But I love the chords and the feeling this song gives me. All of radiohead's songs are abstract.

Also been listneing to a lot of other music like mewithoutYou, cage the elephant, dead letter circus etc. Working in the lab has really opened me up to so much new music because a lot of the guys I work with listen to such alternative stuff that I never would have given a chance. It's been quite cool. OKAY I CONFESS I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WRITING MY THESIS BUT I PROCRASTIATED OKAY THIS POST WONT EVEN MAKE SENSE I JUST DIDNT WANT TO WRITE OKAY DONT SUE ME

I'm a messed up kid with no ideals at all

I realised recently that one of the songs I quote the most in my head is a song by Phoenix called "Long Distance Call". There's a lyric that goes "I'm a messed up kid with no ideals at all" and I noticed I say that all the time to myself. Such a simple lyric but so true. We are all messed up kids with no ideals, aren't we?

Anyway, that's not what I came here to blog about. I'm going to Sydney tomorrow for a Genetics Conference! I'm actually pretty excited. Not so much about the conference, but more about the fact me and my lab people are stuck with each other for five days. This sounds cheesy, but we're gonna learn so much about each other and perhaps bond a bit and that makes me excited for some reason. But really, if you live with a person, even for such a short time, you always learn something about them. I guess I'm just happy to be able to hang with them outside of the lab for once. Which reminds me, I'm also excited because I get to not go into lab for a whole week! I'm also excited about all the pastries I have been told about.

This whole year, I feel like I'm been chucked into the grown up world. I'm pretty much working full time hours, except not getting paid. I have to attend meetings, conferences, afternoon teas, have deadlines etc. Everyone else in the lab, the "grown ups" always seem to have it all together. That use to intimidate me a little because I still felt like a child who didn't know anything. But after looking closer, they are all just messed up kids too, like me.

Hm, I felt like I had more to blog about but I guess not. Either that or I'm too sleepy to bother to remember. Well, see you in 5 days!

Anklebiters

"Why do you care what people think? Are you hooked up to their leash?
You know anklebiters ate up your personality.
Try to remember how it felt to just make up your own steps.
And let anklebiters chew up, spit out someone else.
And fall in love with yourself.
Because someday you're gonna be the only one you've got.
Someday you're gonna be the only one you've got."

Sick Dayze

Ugh, so I'm sick at the moment and it's not very fun. The thing is, usually when I get sick, I bounce back within the week and I'm at my worst for max 2-3 days. This time around, I've caught the flu and I've been sick for just over a week now.

I took last Monday off from uni and even though I still wasn't feeling better, I went to uni for the rest of the week. STUPID MOVE. Then on the weekend I got even more sick and got this bacterial infection ON MY FACE. Apparently it's called "periorbital dermatitis". It's so gross, imagine your whole face swollen up and red, and tiny little white pimple things everywhere. Not even my mac makeup could cover this one up.

I got it because apparently my immune system has been so low, the bacteria thought it would be great to come and invade my body. All because I didn't rest last week and kept pushing myself, trying to prove what an awesome honours student I was. NOW I have to take even more time off AND take these stupid antibiotics.

I'm lucky, my supervisor has been totally cool about this and is supporting me and offering to do my lab work until I feel better. It's making me feel even more guilty about staying at home. But, since I am staying at home, I'm going to rest. Stay in bed all day and build up my immune system to fight them bacteria (ain't no way I'm leaving the house with my face like this). I even made me this vegetable super juice that's supposed to help you if you have the flu and to build your strength. I think I put too much parsley in, but it's not that bad.

So the lesson learned here is next time you're sick, get better before doing things or you're face will get ugly.

I feel the knife go innnn

Something got me really bummed yesterday. I caught up with a friend who I hadn't seen in ages, because I've just been too busy. Anyway, that's not the part that bummed me out. What bummed me out was that she had been going through a really, really tough time in the past few weeks. I asked her why she didn't tell me, and she said it was because she knew I was busy and didn't want to add any pressure on me.

That just made me so, so mad. I know I'm busy, it's true. But I never wanted to be that friend who is always "too busy" for their friends. I just felt so mad at my self. Especially because I kept telling myself that I have to catch up with this friend because I hadn't seen her in ages, but I was always putting it off. I know I'm busy, but I never want to be too busy for the people I love. It just made me really mad, and the fact she was going through a hard time made me mad and bummed me out the past few days.

I guess that whole thing sort of motivated me to make more of an effort with friends I don't get to see at uni. I know it's hard, but at LEAST one night a week should be spent trying to catch up with my friends. Even if it's for 2 hours or something. Speaking of things getting you motivated, I have been more motivated lately to be more friendly. You see, the people in my lab. They are not the most social bunch, and the friendships I have made this far are all because I had to be the one to make the first move. They are very quiet and don't really talk to you unless you talk to them sort of thing. At the beginning, I used to be like that because I thought that's how things worked around here. But lately I've been realizing, we are all human. I should just talk to them and make the effort because quite frankly it's stupid sitting in silence.

So that's exactly what I've been trying to do. Be the one to make conversations and be more friendly I guess. So I guess that's what's been happening the past month, or at least in my head. Physically, I went to Groovin' the Moo, met Tegan and Sara and found $50, so that's also cool.

Well, I suppose I better head on off now!

One of those crazy girls

-->
Oh man, it’s been a tough few weeks. Honours has completely taken over my life. Well, at least for the past month anyway.

I had a literature review due in last Friday and man oh man, that took way too much out of me. Then on Tuesday I had an oral presentation worth the same amount as my Lit review, except I only worked on that for 2 days, and my Lit review for about a month. So yeah. Life.

Anyway, I’m in that period where I have no assessments that are due in the next few weeks, so I can focus all my energy on Lab work and get somewhere with my project. OR SO I THOUGHT! But there isn’t much for me to do in the Lab. Everything I need to do takes time, and long waiting periods between experiments. So I feel a bit useless, seeing everyone so busy and then me, just sitting at my desk on Tumblr. But it’s good though, it’s really nice to take it a bit easy after being so busy.

I especially like it when I get to go home. Before, I’d do work in the lab, go home and do work on assessments and repeat. But now I can actually just go home and not do any work cause I have none (for now!). I’ve been spending a LOT of time playing guitar and piano; learning songs, recording random stuff on garageband, pretending I’m a producer and adding crazy effects and what not. I forgot how much I enjoyed doing stuff like that! It’s been really good for me I think, I’ve noticed I feel a lot more happier in general. It’s just so important to keep doing things you love when life gets busy. I think it’s just as important to keep time for the stuff you love as it is to keep time for stuff you have to do, even if it’s just 30 mins every few days. Thing is, I never realized I needed it until I had it. It’s been almost therapeutic. I feel just SO much more content with everything, even with the fact I just saw about 100 dead flies in a vile lying on top of each other, rotting in their own food which had gone off.

Sorry, you didn’t need to know that. ANYWAY! I’m waiting patiently for my Paramore box set to arrive, it has two exclusive B-sides that weren’t on the album, and apparently one of the songs sounds like their older stuff (as in first album stuff), which is making me really excited. It’s nice to know that although they’ve changed so much, they still have that same element that got them started in the first place.

I’m actually in the lab right now, writing this in a Word document so it looks like I’m doing work. I should probably go. Bye!

Pista 7

This weekend has been a pretty epic one. It's only right now that I've actually sat down and taken everything in.

When I say 'epic', I really mean busy. I've spent pretty much 90% of this weekend working on my lit review that I only finished an hour ago.  It feels great to be done with it, but I know my supervisor is going to want me to make changes to it, just like the first draft. But for now, I'm done with it!

Besides that, Easter happened! I think this was the first Easter that I actually forgot it was Easter until I woke up on Sunday and saw eggs outside my door from my Dad Easter Bunny. Usually I look forward to Easter; the big meal, the family gatherings, the chocolate. But I guess my mind had been so busy that I forgot to get excited. It's kind of sad, but what can you do? I chose this life.

My Dad also left for Sri Lanka for a week on Easter, so I spent half of the day at the airport. I was surprised at how busy the airport was, given it the day it was.

I suppose the most exciting thing that happened for me personally this weekend was Paramore's album leaking. Should I be excited by that? Am I a bad fan for being excited that their album leaked? This has also happened with the previous two albums. For the last album, I didn't listen to the leak and I waited until I got the CD. Unlucky for me, I ordered a special deluxe boxset so I didn't get the CD until 3 weeks after it was released. I ordered the boxset this time around again, but unlike last time, I figured I should just listen to it. It's not like I'm ripping Paramore off right? I did buy the most expsenive package for the album + I'm buying it in stores the day it comes out. I'm just getting an early taste. Besides, it's only 5 days early.

I won't bore you with my thoughts/feelings on the album. I wrote, I kid you not, a 2000 word review on my Paramore blog. If only I could write at that speed for my lit review, I'd be done in 2 hours!
All I'll say is this; it's their best album yet, every song is single material, I love that you can hear Taylor's influence, the leak I downloaded had all the songs labeled as "pista". My favourites off the album are pista 7 and pista 17. But only by a little because as I said, all the pistas are good. In fact, I was listening to pista 7 as I began to write this but I couldn't because it was too good to multitask too; it needed my full attention.

Oh! I cut my own fringe today. I didn't completely fail. I think I'll do it from now on. It feels good doing my own hair instead of getting someone else to do it heh. I feel like an independent woman.

I really want to post a song from the album here, but I feel wrong seeing as its not even out yet. So instead, I'll post this:

I confess I've lost control

Today I went to Oakleigh music fesitval. Oakleigh has always been my second home anyway, so it was really nice. I bought cupcakes and drank hot chocolate and then I remembered that I performed there a few years ago with the school choir and I thought that was random.

The main reason I went was to see my sis play a small set. The venue they played in was so cool, very intimate but the stage setup was amazing. Apparently a lot of now famous people have played there. It's the kind of venue that every artist has to start at. I fell in love once I walked in, it was small, there were tables with candles on them and band posters covering all the walls with the stage at the front. It was just so...cosy?

Anyway, my sis did an awesome job! Every time I see her perform at something like this I get continually impressed, she's just such a good singer and she keeps getting better! The good thing is, the sound producer who was working the sound table is actually quite well known in the music business, and he apparently promotes acts which he likes, and he really liked my sis and her friend! That made me happy hehe, if I can't be a musician, I'll live through my sister and be a stage mum MWAHAHAHA.

Anyway, the whole thing got me inspired to play the guitar when I got home, and after I finished my uni work I told myself I'll allow an hour just to muck around on the guitar. One hour somehow turned into 3 and I didn't even notice! It was awesome, it just felt so good to get back into it. To actually get excited once I learn a song and want to just keep playing it over and over. Honestly, I haven't felt that same thrill in a while. It was so wonderful to feel it again. But now my hand hurts, it keeps cramping up. GO HARD OR GO HOME.

I heard Garbage play this song at Soundwave and I remember thinking to myself to find out what song it was, because I REALLY liked it. I searched through all their old albums and my search came up with nothing. But then I bought their new album and it was on there! So weird because it sounds like an old Garbage song. Anyway, I really like it. It's pretty dark and sad. Sometimes I think I'm meant for the early 90s when there was grunge and teen angst.

It's a circle; a mean cycle.

I keep forgetting that this blog exists, and then when I read it after a while I get inspired to maintain it. It's like a cycle or something.

So I've started my honours year, and it has already taken over my life. That happened a lot sooner than I expected. The good thing is, I thought I would be miserable this year and feel overwhelmed with all the work. I feel neither of those. I'm quite content, and sure it's a lot of work, but I'm coping! It hasn't swallowed me...yet.

One important thing that I was really afraid of this year was that I was going to lose myself. I knew that pretty much all other aspects of my life would have to come to a stand still, and I can see that they have. But I never wanted to lose myself. I didn't want to become so caught up in my work that I forgot about myself; my essence I suppose. Sure, I love genetics and I do find it interesting, but that's not all there is to me. I've been listening to a tonne of music lately, and I feel like that has kept me grounded; helped me to maintain myself I suppose. It's only the beginning of what is going to be a tough year, and I'm going to try really hard to not lose myself. I'm going to try and listen to as much new music as I want to, play the piano/guitar a few times a week and attend lots of gigs! The last thing I want is for me to be so engulfed in my work that it becomes all there is to me. I see people in the lab like that and I wonder, sure, what you do is a huge part of your life and it's perfectly fine to reflect that in your personality, but don't let work become who you are! I don't know, it's just really important to me.

I feel so happy with myself I guess. Well, not "happy" with myself. But there are certain aspects about me that I like. I like the fact I like music, I like that I watch cartoons, I like that I draw random things all the time. I feel like if I stop doing those things, I'm not going to be me anymore, and rather some robot. A robot that knows A LOT about Drosophila.

Anyway, I shall end my rant there. This is Paramore's newest song:

It's quite poppy, a little bit of an indie pop vibe, but I like it. Probably because it's Paramore. But if I were to listen to their whole album, this would probably be one of my least favourite songs. But given the context, I like it! But, I much rather the first song they released:

Loved it the first listen in China airport haha! If this is an accurate representation of the new album, then BOY I am in for a treat!

I forgot about this blog

Whoops! I forgot this blog existed! I should put up sticky notes to remind myself to write in this thing. So it's 2012 now. My very last year of uni. It's been pretty good up until the last few weeks. Things have been so hectic, I never thought things could get so busy. It's gotten to the point where I barely have time to eat, or I'm so into my work that I actually forget to eat. Majoring in two things is NOT easy at all. Oh well, after this week things should settle down again. On friday I plan on going shopping with my sister to buy a mothers day present and also just to shop in general. This sounds so weird, but I haven't been shopping since I got back Europe in January. I haven't bought a single item of clothing! I just haven't had the time! I am so looking forward to this friday, I just have to get through 2 major assessments. Other than uni, life has been pretty alright. Actually wait, I can't think of a life outside of uni! Oh my gosh, it has really consumed me. I can't wait until the mid year break. Anyway, I shall try and update this more often!

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

I just finished watching this anime, and I gotta say, it was pretty good.

I didn't think I'd be into any anime involving a young girl gaining magical powers somehow and trying to save the world after I was 10. But here I was, drawn into every episode. I think what I like about it the most is that it's not what you expect. It's very dark and heavy, and pretty sad at points. It's a bit twisted as well, and really plays with your mind. Most episodes left me with a heavy heart, especially towards the end. I would not want my 10 year old kid to be watching this. It's only 12 episodes long too, so if you're bored and looking for something to do, spend a say watching this! You'll be hooked!

I'm going to write a couple of spoilers down below, so DO NOT READ AFTER THE PICTURE IF YOU WANT TO WATCH IT!

SPOLER: ****************************
Some things that were quite different to other anime this genre was the fact that the little cute animal dude was not trustworthy. You know how Sakura has Kiro, and Sailor Moon has Luna? Well the one Madoka has, Kyube, though he is very cute, he really twists the plot around a few times due to his ulterior motives. Even the fact he was willing to let all the girls die is surprising. But it's also a good thing, it made the anime seem more cold. Also, the amount the deaths in the series. That was also surprising. Especially because they were significant characters. It all made the anime more better though! Wow I sound mean.

I got a confession

I like watching anime. But not just any anime...anime aimed at 12-15 year old girls. Like, ones meant for a younger age group. Of course I enjoy the more mature ones too (no, not THAT kind of mature) like Death note and stuff, but there is something about the kiddy ones that I like. Perhaps it's the innocence of it. And they are always really cheesy. But they really comfort me, especially around these exam times. I'm actually really embarrassed of this and don't really know why I am making a post about it. The funny thing is, I didn't realise that the anime I like was for tweens. I asked my friend at work (who loves anime) if she has ever watched K-ON (my current anime), and she was like "hahaha, no but my 12 year old sister does", and I was like "hahaha yeah same" even though I don't have a 12 year old sister. Anyways, my episode of K-ON has loaded, so I gotta go and watch that now.

I have a friend at work who goes to pretty much every music festival that comes to Melbourne. She's seen pretty much every band play live, several times, and knows SO many underground local bands and no one has ever heard of. And she knows SO MUCH about music. I mention any random band, and she'll tell me when they started playing, how long they've been together for, how many albums they have etc. She's the kind of girl that checks out every band and knows and loves them before they get famous. I guess she's a hipster...except she's not snobby about it. I told her today that she is living the life I want to live. And she said this to me: "Jade, you earn the same amount of money as me. You work the same amount of shifts as me. You CAN live my life if you want to, you just gotta do it". And then I realised that she was right. If I really want to go to a festival so bad, I should just do it. And who cares if I am not too fond of the lineup? It's about the experience, and I might just become a fan of some bands. SO, I am going to check out all the summer festivals, and if there is one that is still on while I'm in Australia, and is decent, IMMA GO! WEEEEOOOEWWWWW.

Passion for Fashion

Actually, I prefer "passion before fashion"...OR SO I THOUGHT!

Today me and a friend went to watch a musical (Love never dies...SO BLOODY GOOD..and sad), and randomly came across a free fashion show, so we thought "why not?". I didn't think I'd like it that much, I've never been into the glam and fab.

But once the show started, I was stunned. The models were so beautiful and perfect, and the hype of the paparazzi and the loud fashion-esque music pumping through just all got to me. I found myself not being able to stop smiling. I was in another world and I loved every bit of it. I was fixated on the catwalk the whole time. The fact I was surrounded by journalists and fashion designers, all the flashing lights. I know it's a superficial world, but I really enjoyed being in it. I was really shocked with myself, it's like some part of me that enjoys this stuff was brought to life. I never even knew a part of me like that existed! It was really fun being in the midst of it all, probably the highlight of my day! Can't wait for fashion week next year! Never thought I'd be saying that...

Here are some happy snaps:

WARNING: Paramore post

Today was a fun filled day for a Paramore fan. Not such a fun filled day for a uni student cause uni was kind of boring and the biochem lecture made me lose all confidence in myself cause I barely understood what was happening.

I actually was kind of bummed about going to uni today because I knew Paramore was playing thier last show today for a special event callef FBR 15, or otherwise known as Fueled By Ramen's 15th Birthday (fueled by Ramen is Paramore's record label), and it was being streamed LIVE worldwide. But because of the time difference, it happened to be 9.30am our time: right in the middle of my genetics lecture. So I was pretty bummed I wouldn't get to watch, seeing as it was thier last show of the year and all.

But, to my wonderful surprise, when I got home, I found out they played a brand new song! So of course I youtubed it, and found it! "Renegade" is the name. It's pretty good. A bit predictable, nothing all that special, but I like it. The lyrics are pretty good. And very obvious of who it's about *coughjoshfarrocough*.

It starts at about 0.35

But, what got me more was this performance:

The song is called "In the mourning". It was never officially released as a song. In fact, it was a little acoustic 30 second song that Hayley posted on her tumblr a few days after the band split up. There wasn't even a guitar, just her own voice. Just a little something she wrote to vent her feelings out to the world. That post got a lot of praise from fans, so she got Taylor to help her write a guitar part to go with it, and they both recorded it at Taylor's house. Just on her mac using imovie. No fancy stuff. The song was a little longer, with 2 verses and a chorus and not so great quality haha (o dat movie). Everyone loved it and it got a lot of praise. But it still wasn't official or anything, and they didn't want to make it official, it was more of a personal thing and also it was only something Hayley had written, and not the whole band (except Taylor helped a little with the guitar).

Soon fans were downloading the audio and treating the song like a full release (including me...hence the piano cover and everything), so they started playing it live at shows. The guitar changed a bit again, and another chorus was added, but nothing that new.

Then today, there was the above performance. A whole new bridge was added, a little change in guitar, and a nice transition to "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac somewhere in the middle. The whole thing just overwhelmed me. The song is about finding strength to move on in tough times, and it's so moving to see from that little 30 second acappela thing Hayley posted, to this full large scale song with thousands of people singing along. Almost like as the song is growing stronger, so is the band. And when the cover of Landslide blended so well with the rest of the song, I just teared up. It was really moving, and was the stand out thing, even though a whole new song was played that no one had ever heard of.

They even played "My Heart", which is a song I'd thought they'd never play again after the Farro's left. That is also a moving song.

Hayley said at the end of that performance that they will be releasing "In the mourning" officially at the end of the year. That means studio quality! YAY! No more dodgy recordings on imovie. I feel really close to this song. It's like my baby now, I've seen it grow and be made into a full piece. And Paramore is the father. Yeah.

Gosh, this post is probably so boring to anyone that is reading it. I don't even know why I wrote it bahaha.

Okay, I have had three cups of tea an the caffeine is getting to me now. Bye!

I think I'm gon' be a busy bee

Well turns out I have an oral to do this Wednesday that I thought was next week but is actually in two days so I'm kind of doing a crappy job researching at the moment. The plus side is, it's for the most pointless unit on the whole planet, so I don't really care. Got two more orals coming up next week, including one that is worth 10%, and I haven't even read the criteria yet. All I know is it's on some gene. And also a few major reports due as well. So yeah, sounds like I'm going to be a busy bee for the next two weeks. Also, I am supposed to be working on my upcoming oral right now but I really rather not.

In other news, my grand aunty and grand uncle got married! They'd been together for 14 years, so I guess it's about time they tied the knot. And what's even more awesome is that they got married at our house, the whole wedding was here! It was crazy, hectic, hilarious and heartwarming. And we got to keep all the left over food from catering so I'm pretty sure I have put on about 2kgs since. The downside was the whole crowd was really old and too interested in my personal life for their own good. The amount of times I had to repeat "No, I do not have a boyfriend". Gosh. And the amount of times I had to hear "Oh! Have I ever told you about my grandson?...". I should have just told them I was gay haha. But for the most part they were all sweet and loved to get down on the dance floor to some Elvis Presley. And I also overhead some sexual jokes too. My word!

Also, my godparents that came down for the wedding are staying with us for a few days. I love having them around the house! When I still lived in Sydney, they would babysit me every single day while my parents worked. So they raised me to some extent and I love having them back in the family (my rents and them got in a little bit of a feud after my parents moved to melbourne, but they are all good now!). I feel so comfortable and so myself around them, and I am never like that with old people! Plus they used to spoil me rotten, and they still do :P

My new song obsession is this song:

I found out the background story as to why it was written, and it's quite sad. I think knowing the exact reason as to why an artist wrote a song makes you look at it differently and appreciate it more. Anyway, give it a listen, it's pretty good!

ALRIGHT! I'll get back to my freaking oral. GAH!

Jade's biggest regret for the year:

Dropping Developmental Biology. Why did I even do it? I LOVED THAT SUBJECT! (well, as much as one can love a subject...cause you know, there are icky assignments and stuff). I am such a silly billy goat. Drop a subject I like for one I don't like.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered?
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that,
and someone believed it,
and look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers, and me.
