St Kilda Fest

So today the family decided that we should go to St Kilda Festival, given that we had nothing to do, and also due to the fact that we had never been. I was really sleepy, and I really did not feel like going, and I didn't even know what such a festival would involve haha. So I went on the website, and to my surprise, today the festival was all about free live music. I was looking through, and they had SO MANY bands and 8 different stages and my heart just went crazy. My sleepiness had gone away and got dressed before everybody else and I was standing at the front door, waiting to leave.

This is sad, but St Kilda fest is the closest thing that I have ever been to going to an actual music festival. And the thought that it was similar to a music festival just made me so happy. But I was scared I would be disappointed, because I only knew 2 of the bands playing, so I thought I wouldn't really enjoy myself.

But the good thing is, I was so wrong. I got to see so many underground bands, and they were all SO GOOD! I just wanted to be at every single stage, I just wanted to see every single act. But I found myself drawn to the main stage most of the time, everyone that came on that stage was so good. Although I must give a shout out to the Push stage, all the bands that played on that stage were alternative, and according to the little booklet, the stage was meant to have music that catered for "the young adolescents". The Nova stage was pretty cool too, it was hidden in a little alleyway and took me forever to find. I got to see this awesome little Hip Hop duo, very much like Bliss n Eso. In fact, according to the little booklet, they had toured with them! Pretty impressive.

But the band that stood out to me the most was the first band I saw for the day; they are called "July Days" and they were amazing. Each member was so talented and good at what they do. They sound like a mix between Jet and the Beatles. A good mix. And the lead singer had a remarkable resemblance to Billy Russel (a channel V presenter). I started stalking them on the internet and came across their myspace. I gotta admit, the songs sound much better live, but if you have a chance give them a little listen, they are pretty awesome: http://www.myspace.com/julydaysaus
Also, I have more followers than they do on twitter haha, so I guess if you like what you hear follow them, I am sure they would love the support!

In between running from stage to stage, there were so many other activities happening. One such activity was ZUMBA! I had ALWAYS wanted to try Zumba, and FINALLY! And I have to say, IT IS SO MUCH FUN! Everyone just gets into it and no one cares how stupid you look. It's so awesome and I am going to book myself in for a few classes this week. Guys, you HAVE to do it. It's amazing. AND you get to dance to good music too. Also, there was african drumming. Just so you know, I LOVE african drumming and culture. And what made the whole thing even better was the fact that I GOT TO PLAY THE BONGO WITH THE AFRICAN DRUMMERS! And the leader kept smiling at me in an effort to say "you're doing a good job". I felt so proud. I pleased the elder. And my hands really hurt after the whole routine was finished haha, but it was so fun to play in rhythm to everyone else, and watch as others danced to the beat you were creating. A very good experience.

There were SO many other things going on, so many rides, stalls, sports and all other forms of entertainment. We didn't get to do one tenth of it all. I guess it was because I was so focused on watching bands baha. Imagine, if I was this content with going to a music festival that isn't really one, imagine how happy I would be if I could go to an actual music festival! OH MY! Well Grooving the Moo IS coming up, and the lineup is pretty decent, although last year's lineup was way better. But I can't complain, I just want to go! But finding buddies to go with is the problem....

Anyway, today was an awesome day. REALLY fun and it was SO satisfying yet also the complete opposite to be able get a little sneak peak into what an actual music festival is like. Just walking around the venue, hearing bands playing in all directions, watching people dance in sync with one other....THAT IS THE LIFE MAN. It is my ideal day of a good day out.
