Awkward Turtle

It's 7.30am right now and everyone is sleeping and I'm awake and I don't really know what to do with myself. So I thought why not write a post about my adventures in Sri Lanka thus far!

It's been pretty fun so far. The weather has been behaving itself, I haven't seen that much rain, and the temperature tends to stay in the high 20's and early 30's, which is the ideal weather for me hehe. We went on a mini tour around Sri Lanka with some other family, I really enjoyed that. We got to go to the elephant orphanage and see all the rescued elephants from the war! We also saw this cultural show, and this dude walked on fire. It was one of those moments where you really want to look away, but you don't. We also went on a safari, and that was probably the highlight. We saw so many animals in their natural habitat. And the jeep ride was fun on it's own as well. It was so bumpy and we went over huge rocks and sand dunes and stuff. It was amazing. But, by the end of it, we were all so dirty and gross. When I had a shower the water leaving my hair was all brown. Don't worry, my hair is clean now.

Been spending a lot of time in pools as well. In every hotel we went to, there were pools and I made full use of them. I started this new thing were I act like a predator in pools. Like I only put half my head out of the water so you can only see my eyes, and I swim around like that, only coming up to breathe. It's like I'm a crocodile. I know it sounds strange, BUT IT'S REALLY FUN. I could do it for hours. And the all the hotels we stayed in were wonderful. But my favourite is still the one I talked about in my last blog post. I could seriously live there. Although there was this one hotel that I thought was extremely cool. It's called the "Tea Factory", and it's actually an abandoned tea factory! It's right in the middle on a tea plantation out in the middle of no where, and inside they have still preserved all the machinery used to make tea. It's really, really cool! And the hotel rooms are the old rooms where they used to carry out the whithering process of making tea. And they still make tea in the hotel, and it tastes so fresh! We bought so much, AND it's organic. I feel like a hippy.

So after the whole tour thing, we had the wedding of my aunty. I think the whole thing was a huge success! Spool was a bridesmaid, and she looked so pretty when she was all dressed up! I had to do a reading in the mass. I was so nervous, the Catholic church is very strict here in Sri Lanka. If you step slightly out of what is expected, the priest will not be happy and say something. Like, if a girl wears a dress that is even slightly above her knee, it is looked down upon. And you have to wear a veil as well while you do the reading as a sign of respect. I personally think all these rules are stupid, but I gotta respect them. Anyway, I was really nervous doing the reading and my legs were shaking so much, but I got there in the end. And when I told people I was nervous, they said I didn't look like it at all, which is a good thing! Also, I wore a sari for the first time for the wedding. It was an interesting process. I don't think I would do it again though because there are just too many fit ons involved and the dressing of the sari takes hours. But the family seemed very happy and proud so I guess it was worth it in the end.

So the wedding was a success, and my aunty and her husband are currently on their honeymoon. Their homecoming is today, so that's exciting! Yesterday my dad took us all out to fly kites on the beach, so that was also fun. I shall post pictures and stuff once I get back home as the internet connection there is much better! Hope everyone else is enjoying thier holidays!
