Today was a fun filled day for a Paramore fan. Not such a fun filled day for a uni student cause uni was kind of boring and the biochem lecture made me lose all confidence in myself cause I barely understood what was happening.
I actually was kind of bummed about going to uni today because I knew Paramore was playing thier last show today for a special event callef FBR 15, or otherwise known as Fueled By Ramen's 15th Birthday (fueled by Ramen is Paramore's record label), and it was being streamed LIVE worldwide. But because of the time difference, it happened to be 9.30am our time: right in the middle of my genetics lecture. So I was pretty bummed I wouldn't get to watch, seeing as it was thier last show of the year and all.
But, to my wonderful surprise, when I got home, I found out they played a brand new song! So of course I youtubed it, and found it! "Renegade" is the name. It's pretty good. A bit predictable, nothing all that special, but I like it. The lyrics are pretty good. And very obvious of who it's about *coughjoshfarrocough*.
It starts at about 0.35
But, what got me more was this performance:
The song is called "In the mourning". It was never officially released as a song. In fact, it was a little acoustic 30 second song that Hayley posted on her tumblr a few days after the band split up. There wasn't even a guitar, just her own voice. Just a little something she wrote to vent her feelings out to the world. That post got a lot of praise from fans, so she got Taylor to help her write a guitar part to go with it, and they both recorded it at Taylor's house. Just on her mac using imovie. No fancy stuff. The song was a little longer, with 2 verses and a chorus and not so great quality haha (o dat movie). Everyone loved it and it got a lot of praise. But it still wasn't official or anything, and they didn't want to make it official, it was more of a personal thing and also it was only something Hayley had written, and not the whole band (except Taylor helped a little with the guitar).
Soon fans were downloading the audio and treating the song like a full release (including me...hence the piano cover and everything), so they started playing it live at shows. The guitar changed a bit again, and another chorus was added, but nothing that new.
Then today, there was the above performance. A whole new bridge was added, a little change in guitar, and a nice transition to "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac somewhere in the middle. The whole thing just overwhelmed me. The song is about finding strength to move on in tough times, and it's so moving to see from that little 30 second acappela thing Hayley posted, to this full large scale song with thousands of people singing along. Almost like as the song is growing stronger, so is the band. And when the cover of Landslide blended so well with the rest of the song, I just teared up. It was really moving, and was the stand out thing, even though a whole new song was played that no one had ever heard of.
They even played "My Heart", which is a song I'd thought they'd never play again after the Farro's left. That is also a moving song.
Hayley said at the end of that performance that they will be releasing "In the mourning" officially at the end of the year. That means studio quality! YAY! No more dodgy recordings on imovie. I feel really close to this song. It's like my baby now, I've seen it grow and be made into a full piece. And Paramore is the father. Yeah.
Gosh, this post is probably so boring to anyone that is reading it. I don't even know why I wrote it bahaha.
Okay, I have had three cups of tea an the caffeine is getting to me now. Bye!

Monster
Paramore have officially released their first new single after the "incident". So, their first song just being a trio. It came out a few hours ago and I only got the chance to listen to it now, due to the fact I was sleeping haha. I gotta say, I was a bit surprised with myself. Usually when Paramore release a new song, I go absolutely crazy. I would have actually stayed up till 2.00am to listen to the premiere of it, I would have gone all fangirly, talked to all my paramore friends online about the song, and got super duper excited. But this time around I was just neutral. And while listening to the whole song for the first time, I was just pokerfaced. And when the song ended I was like "hmm". I don't know, it was just really unexpected of me and strange haha. I guess the good thing is I was able to look at the song for what is actually was without instantly loving the song because it was a "Paramore song".
But I wanted to write down my initial thoughts of the song while it's still very new to me and before it gets overplayed. Firstly, I guess the thing that stood out the most to me was the guitars. Particularly at the beginning, and the guitar solo. I really liked the guitar solo. Taylor did such a good job, he tracked both lead and rhythm guitar AND drums. He had to fill in the gap Josh and Zac left behind all on his own and I am not being bias at all in saying this (because he is my boyfriend and all), but he really, really did a good job. He had a lot of pressure on him, and huge shoes to fill, and I am just so proud of him it hurts haha. Kudos to him.
Secondly, the lyrics. They are so dark and you can just tell what they are about. Hayley must have been very angry when she wrote them. But to me that makes the song more appealing because I feel like I, being a fan, was apart of the whole fiasco that unraveled and I got to go through the same notions that Hayley did when they left the band. Of course I did not feel the same thing on the same level, but I did feel the betrayal and the hurt too, and all that is clearly expressed in the song. So I suppose that forms an instant connection. Oh oh! Want to know something funny? There is this lyric in the chorus that goes "well now that you've gone, the world is ours". And one hour after the song was released, Josh tweets this: "Matthew 16:26 "for what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?". LOL. I have noticed that every time Paramore announce a certain thing or release something, he ALWAYS tweets a Bible quote that combats it. I think someone is still butthurt hehe. He's probably just using it as a means to get to Hayley, as they don't talk to each other anymore. Sad sad.
I've only listened to the song 3 times, and I have to admit, it was only on the third listen that I actually started to like it. It sounds very different from past Paramore, and of course that was to be expected given the primary songwriter left the band. Though it's different, it's still good. But it's only good because I like that kind of music, if I wasn't into the more indie hard rock kind of thing, I probably wouldn't like the song, because it certainly doesn't sound like Paramore. My ears will take some time to get used to this new Paramore sound, but for now I am liking what I am hearing. Not loving, but liking. But hey, it's their first single and this is just one aspect to what they are creating, I have to wait till another album comes out before I go all music snob.
Alright I think that's everything I wanted to write down. Oh no, wait I wanted to share this lyric I really like:
"i let my heart go,
it's somewhere down at the bottom.
but I'll get a new one".
I don't know why, but I just like those lines. Also, I might as well share the actual song :P
Tell me what you think of it!

I'm just a misguided ghost.
Hehehe....Today i opened the door, and outside was a little package for me...can anybody guess what it was???
WELL I'M GONNA TELL YOU! It was of course my deluxe box set of Brand New Eyes, Paramore's latest album! I cannot even describe to you in mere words the excitement that filled my veins when I opened that package!
So anyway, without dragging on, I wanna tell you guys about the album, my own little review. But before I begin, to ensure you that I am not being bias, as i was listening to the album, i pretended that Miley Cyrus was the singer, that way i would be completely honest with myself if I liked any of the songs.
After my first listen, the songs that really stood out to me were: Careful, Brick by boring brick, The only exception, misguided ghosts and All I wanted. Those are definetly my favourites. Hmmm...that's like half the album! oh well, nevermind.
SO, this album has songs that are quite "poppy", kinda like "That's what you get", and then it has songs more like "decode" that are dark. Then, there are songs that make you see a whole new side of Paramore, acoustics! There is even a love song, but I tell you, this love song is not the sappy kind, yet it makes you cry. It's the kinda song I would want played at my wedding.
At first, some of the songs disappointed me because they were more pop than rock, but what redeemed me was the lyrics. Usually pop songs have lyrics tha make you cringe, but let me tell you, these lyrics are not cringe worthy at all. Paramore have really stepped up, these lyrics are very deep and meaningful, and carry with them a lot of emotion. "Playing God" is a great exmple. Although it is sung in a carefree way, lyrics like "next time you point you point a finger, i might have to bend it back or break it off" are definitly NOT carefree.
"Careful and Brick by Boring Brick" are more of the Decode-sounding songs. Careful is an awesome track, the vocals and music compliment eachother nicely. I feel like "Brick by Boring Brick" was written about me, it's kinda sad how badly I can relate to it.
"ignorance".... we have all heard it, we know what it's about. Weird that they chose this song out of everything else to be thier first single, doesn't really represent the whole new level of awesomeness Paramore has acheived, but it does kinda bridge the gap between Riot and Brand New Eyes.
Some songs make your brain tick to try and figure what they are about, while some songs are straight to the point. "Looking Up" is very straight to the point: they almost gave up being a band, and realise how stupid that would have been. "The only exception" is not that hard to figure out either, she beleives in love again! (this is the love song i was talking about). "Turn it off" and "Feeling Sorry" require more brain work, but once you figure it out, you think, woah.....this is deep. (okay, i kinda read Hayley's lyric journal to help me figure out what those songs are about, but still...)
"Where the lines overlap" is a very fun song. One of those songs that just makes you feel so happy. It sounds like they are singing it live right next to you because you can hear the gasps of breath Hayley has to take before she starts singing the next phrase. Probably a great song to bounce to live.
"All I wanted"....don't really know what category to put this one in....the main thing that stands out is definitly Hayley's AMAZING vocals. Gives me chills just listening to how high she can sing without sounding fake. This song ends Brand New Eyes, not sure why they chose this song to end on, i would have gone for a more happier one, but it does leave you wanting more.
Now, my all time favourite on the album, "Misguided ghosts". At the start of this, you can hear a "one, two, three, four" from Josh, and then it is just the guitar and Hayley the rest of the way. This songs just touched me so much, i totally get what she is going through. "I'm just one of those ghosts that travel endlessly. don't need no roads, infact, they follow me". I guess its just a great song for a teenager, or anyone for that fact, who is still trying to find who they are, and are confused on how to get there. It sucks that this is the shortest song on the album, but in my humble opinion, its the best. Very different from the typical "Paramore" sound, it almost sounds like a song you would expect to hear in Juno.
Overall, this album is probably thier best yet. Let me rephrase that, this album IS thier best yet. The topics that they sing about are much more deep and meaningful, not just about how some girl has a body that ticks like a clock, and you can tell that they have grown a lot as people, and as a band, and they are sharing that wisdom with us. In a way, its good that they went through all those problems as a band, because if they hadn't, Brand New Eyes would have not been the same. If you are expecting another "riot", don't, because you will be disapointed. If you are expecting another "all we know is falling" don't, cause you will be disappointed. If you would like a combination of the two taken to a whole new level to produce a whole new sound from Paramore, than get out there and get this album. Really, because of the diversity found in this album, there is guaranteed to be a song that you like.
